How to Make Healthy Trail Mix: 4 Ways

June 10, 2018 by Jessica Leave a Comment

healthy trail mix

Trail mix is by far one of the easiest and healthiest snacks you can have on hand.  It’s full of protein (if you use nuts & seeds) and just enough healthy sugars (if you use no-sugar-added dried fruits) to fill you up and provide the perfect energy boost.  I could snack on trail mix all day….and sometimes do.  It’s super easy to throw together on the weekend and then pull out or take with you during the week whenever you need it.  I prefer to use mason jars to store mine, but plastic baggies would work well too.

My four favorite, fail-proof trail mix combinations.  I mix equal parts of each ingredient, typically 1/2 cup of each.

  1. raisins, sunflower seeds, soft dried apples, and almond slivers
  2. peanuts, dark chocolate chips, chopped dried cherries, and crushed apple chips
  3. pepitas (pumpkin seeds), walnuts, dried cranberries, and dark chocolate chips
  4. pistachios, chopped dried apricot, coconut flakes, and almond slivers
